Our story
Deaf-initely Women brings deaf, hard of hearing, and deafblind women together.
Together, we are stronger. Always.
Deaf-initely Women brings together deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing women to create a safe, supportive, and empowering community.
Isolation can be detrimental, especially for women who face barriers because of hearing loss. Deaf-initely Women exists to challenge that isolation. We empower women who have experienced discrimination, trauma, abuse, exclusion, or a lack of understanding – offering a safe space where every woman is valued and supported.
We offer opportunities for peer support, skill-building, and personal growth, helping women gain the confidence and strength to lead fulfilling lives.
Our History
Deaf-initely Women was born from friendship, shared experience, and a desire to make a difference.
It all started over a birthday meal. Ten deaf friends were celebrating not just a birthday – but their identity as deaf women. As they shared stories, they also opened up about the challenges they faced in their daily lives. What stood out most was the emotional strength they gave each other.
They realised that many deaf and hard of hearing women don’t have this kind of support – and that needed to change.
That moment sparked the creation of Deaf-initely Women: a space where women could come together, share experiences, and support each other through life’s challenges.
From that first conversation at the dinner table, Deaf-initely Women has grown into a powerful force for social inclusion, connection, and change.
