Today I attended the launch of the 1st Deaf-initely Womens Abuse Support Service for the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deaf/blind community.
And met the The Police & Crime Commissioner for Nottinghamshire, Caroline Henry. I did suggest it would be good for her to learn the basics of BSL as well…
If you know anyone needing support please forward these details, so they know support is out there!
It’s really difficult to sit and listen to stories of abuse (with hearing people) anyway, but for the Deaf community it makes it really hard to get the support you need, when you need more support around you, ie interpreters.
Listening to these ladies (and men) not being able to get the support they desperately need, when they need it is heartbreaking, frustrating and in this day and age unforgivable!
Thankfully the Commissioner is very much behind this initiative and welcomes feedback to help improve the service and provide much needed funding where it’s needed.
So please spread the word, it’s vital they get support, at the right time, by the right people. K. Jones
