NEW! A Pioneering service to support deaf women in managing their low moods

Sep 26, 2022

We have received funding from Community Action Derby to deliver a pioneering service that involves peer support service in supporting people experiencing low moods or mental health living in Derby City.

Deaf-initely Women is one of the selected providers who will be involved in developing this programme for deaf and hard-of-hearing women living in Derby.

Sarah is an experienced counsellor having counselled many deaf people learning to manage their low moods and mental health needs.

Emma will also be supporting deaf women in providing casework support services in ensuring that deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing women are accessing health services to assist them with managing their mental health and improve their well-being. Sarah said: “I am delighted to be able to share my personal experience in managing low moods and mental health. It is so important for deaf, deafblind and hard-of-hearing women to know that there are more people who experience mental health issues including low moods than we think. Most people still feel ashamed at disclosing to their friends, family and colleagues.” Emma agreed: “There is nothing wrong with having mental health. There are so many types of mental health issues such as low moods and anxiety. What is important is to feel that it is okay and to learn how to manage this and hopefully recover.” For more information about this new service, please contact Sarah on sarah@deafinitelywomen.org.uk and Emma on emma@deafinitelywomen.org.uk
