Adapting the change from face-to-face to online

In response to Coronavirus, we are adapting the way we provide our services to providing events, classes and workshops online.

One of our funders, the National Community Lottery Fund has provided funding for the Deaf Women Matters project asked us to deliver our services in a different way to try and reach those who are isolated within their own homes during the lockdown. We have risen to the challenge and have provided workshops such as Understanding Menopause and Cooking with less sugar via using Zoom video conferencing.

Meeting online

The lockdown has presented us with many challenges. We knew many deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing women including BSL signers were isolated and some were working remotely from home. We were fortunate to have the support from our IT maintenance team who ensured that we continued to work from home. We now have online weekly staff meetings and regular 1-2-1 supervision to ensure that everyone feels included and knows what to do.

We are proud to say that we have quickly adapted and learned the new skills on video conferencing, newsletters and updating website and keeping in touch with everyone. We quickly created new ways for deaf women to contact us such as various video calls through messenger, zoom and Skype. This help to reduce isolation for our peers. We have also set up a new private group for our peers on Facebook group enable to communication, keeping in touch through difficult times.

Deaf-initely Women – we can adapt

Therefore, as we all know how extremely important for all deaf and hearing loss women in various communities to keep in constant touch for their well-being, healthy and staying safe by going digital and on-line especially during this Covid19 situation. That we are adaptable organisation with team that have range of excellent skills to a good use. To all the funder’s opportunities, if other organisations can give support during Covid19, then we can do it too!  √
